My mission is making the music feel the way it was meant to be.
That includes continuing to hone and perfect my craft, staying up to date with the latest technologies and platforms, and being ever aware of the changing landscape in the world of music and sound. I love working with artists to bring better music to the world one record at a time.
I got into mastering because I care obsessively about how records feel – not just how they measure. Two-plus decades later, that’s still the whole job. I work with independent artists who feel the same way. No plug-in chains, no templates, no presets. Just signal path, ears, and time – a real mastering process applied to your specific record, not a generalized idea of what it should sound like.
Above all I love music. I’m an audiophile but I’m more of a musicophile. My entire life I have been involved with the world of music and sound.
I love hearing the sound, and feeling the music. My flow comes from interacting with sound and music. I help the artist realize the very best vision of their art, highlight and amplify the emotional content in the music and help the listener immerse more deeply into the experience.
In my career arc I started my journey as an artist. Being broke I decided I needed to learn to engineer my own music to save some bucks. That resulted in a major shift of trajectory for me. Pretty much once I started working with sound as an engineer I was hooked. And once I understood what mastering actually was, I knew that was what I wanted to do.
I spent a lot of years learning about the dynamics of music, sound, mastering the equipment and learning from some truly gracious mentors. Working with artists across many genres I have acquired a deep respect and responsibility in maximizing the emotional impact, narrative and connection between the artist and the audience.
Borrowing from the philosophy of the great Bruce Lee, I did my best to, “absorb what is useful, reject what is useless, add what is essentially your own.” I combined the elements of artist, engineer and producer into my mastering skillset.
Fast forward a decade or three, and I have built relationships with some incredible artists and clients, and I’m still growing out my base. I’m still serving the music, I’m still learning, and I still have more I want to do. The world of music is ever evolving and so am I.
I deeply appreciate all the awesome people I’ve gotten to work with during my journey. Thanks to all of you for trusting me with your art.
What I do
First we talk about what you want to accomplish. Once you tell me about your vision we figure out how to get there. Your music is processed through a high end analog chain consisting of new, vintage, and custom designed outboard equipment that is meticulously fine-tuned for all genres of music.
Depending on the needs of the music and your desires your music might also be processed through a pristine digital environment. Here I employ mission specific, cutting edge tools for digital enhancement, editing, restoration, sample rate conversion and file delivery.
The combination of world-class analog gear, digital tools, and cutting-edge plugins means that your music will get the specific attention it deserves to connect more deeply with your audience. The impact of your music, not just the sound, will be maximized in every way. That’s how we finish your record together….
